I am setting up a new garden workshop. I plan to fit a simple 3-way consumer with RCD in the workshop and running power though an armoured cable from another garden cabin. The garden cabin already as a 32A feed and a consumer unit, but I am unsure of how to run the feed off this consumer unit to the new workshop.

Should it be connected in parallel before it gets to the cabin consumer unit, or should it be connected off an MCB in the cabin consumer unit?

Thanks
Steve

and you will need this.

Supply will be from the consumer unit in the cabin to the workshop which has a 32A supply. I am guessing that I will draw a max of 4kw at any one time which should be roughly 16A.

My plan is to run the LED battons, switches and sockets myself, supply the armoured cable (dig trench and lay cable) and then get a qualified electrician in to check my work and connect up the cabin electrics to the new workshop.

My question was purely out of interest in how it would be done.

First off, you have to ascertain whether the existing set up is adequate for the proposed extra load.
Once you’ve established that, then you can either take the new supply from where it enters the existing shed CU, or take it from a spare way in that CU.

Ok, I will get the electrician in first for advice before I start running any cables around the new workshop. I will be doing the sockets myself as I am boarding and insulating the workshop over a number of weeks and want all the sockets flush mounted. Can't get the electrician back in every time I get to a new socket.
