Screwed into cable in loft

Hi i put a screw through the lv mains cable in loft got a little flash cable got warm then cooled what should I do from here? Thanks in advance

if you are competent, put in a JB, if not leave circuit isolated and contact a local spark, they will be able to repair and perform a test to ensure that you haven't gone through the cable anywhere else

Hi I should have explained a little better. The cable is the main supply to property 20mm black has 600/1000 imbossed on cable I have no way to isolate.

Look for your meter cupboard, there may be a means of isolation in there

You better get spark quick if have damaged that cable considering its the main cable in the loft for main property .

Ring the DNO and expect a large bill!

Are you in a terraced house, if so you may have damage your neighbours supplies as well as your own .

No screw is not in cable.

A lad I worked with was a banksman on very large hydraulic face shovel. It caught fire and he was considered not to have responded appropriately . When asked what steps should take in the event of fire , he replied " Great big f*****s two at a time".

If the cable is the one that serves your property and the damage is to the portion before the main fuse, you should call your DNO and explain it is a dangerous situation requiring an emergency response.

As others have said you need to notify the DNO if this cable is before the service head/meter. The screw probably vapourised when it came in to contact with the live, clearimg the fault. But what you are now left with is damage to the insulation all the way through. This could lead to another, potentially larger arc flash, which could cause a fire or serious burns if you are in the vicinity. Get it sorted ASAP
