Hi All.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I thought I read somewhere about avoiding the use of 'socket doublers' on caravan sites. I've checked through 708 and 721 in BGB and can't find what I am looking for. What is niggling in the back of my mind is having read a phrase that said something like - 'the use of socket doublers should be avoided'. Can anyone help?

I appreciate 708.553.1.12 says that at least 1 socket outlet shall be provided for each caravan pitch.

Many thanks.

A mate of mine uses a doubler on campsites to connect both the caravan and lighting in his awning -

Bear in mind that the connection to the caravan will already involve internal 'splitting' to different sockets/lights etc - and I can't see any issue from a safety point of view.

Are you intending to use one on a site, or is the question just academic?

You need to consider where the installation finishes and the appliance begins really.

The installation ends at the socket and so to comply with regs it will be just the one socket on an RCD etc.

Whatever is plugged in to the socket becomes the appliance and to be honest you can pretty much do what you like to split the supply, it'll still be limited to 16A whatever you do.
