security light wiring help

Hi everyone.

I'm new and after some advise please

I am putting security lights up at my house. They are the sensor type. They didn't come with the cable so I went to my diy store and asked for the right cable to use.

I have wired up the light as per instructions.

The other end I have threaded through a hole into the garage and put a plug on the end and plugged it in a socket and It all works fine.

I just wondered is this ok I have put a plug on the end insted of wiring it to the main fuse box or wherever else its meant to or can be wired to. I wanted it the simplist way without touching other electrics.

Is this ok???

I have also changed the fuse in the plug to a 5amp insted of 13amp that was in the plug I bought. As this was mentioned in the instructions

although unconventional, it's fine as you describe. might be an idea to label the plug "5A Fuse" to deter someone from fitting a 13A. i hope you have used flex and not twin/earth cable.

I will lable it like you said thanks.

I have used blue brown yellow cable. Black outta casing.
I asked for cable to fit onto a security light and thats wat they gave me. Is that right

So long as it fits neatly through the grommets and the cable entries are therefore sealed against water ingress then that cable should be OK.
Hopefully it is blue brown and (green and yellow) cable.

Yeh everything is snug and water tight.
Its blue brown and plain yellow

if you look a bit closer, you'll see its green/yellow striped.

any time you unplug it leave it unplugged for about a minute before plugging it back in.
some sensor lights have a mode change feature (sensor, dusk to dawn, etc)
and will switch modes if power is restored to quickly

had quite a few calls for sensor lights not working properly for this reason:laugh:
