Discuss shower in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

hi
can anyone give me any information on changing heater tank and thermo cut out on mira shower, does the water need to be isolated
thanks

Surely it would make more sense to replace the whole unit for new, if you need to replace the main guts of the existing unit?? And it'll come complete with at least a 12 month warranty too... lol!!

water isolator shown below.....

If it was installed "properly" in the first place, the installer "should" have incorporated an isolator somewhere in the pipe so it can be isolated without the need to turn the water off to the rest of the house. Same applies to sink taps, basin taps & bath taps etc.

Since when did plumbers do things properly? When mine installed my electric shower 10 years ago (long before I knew anything about electrics) it turns out he couldn't be bothered to tighten the screw onto the CPC in it, nor did he bother to put an RCD in the consumer unit it was fed from! Oh, and I have to turn the water off from the cover in the road.:mickey:

obviously, thast would mean that it;s been jnstalled by a spaqrks, not a plumber.

Exactly !!

That's why I typed the word properly between inverted commas !! ;)

That said, I always used isolating valves on everything (when I was working) because I liked to do things "properly".

I was working on plumbing, gas and electrics and took pride in doing all three "properly".

It always amazes me to see tradesmen who are (supposedly) qualified in only one of these trades who just don't seem to have got the hang of it, and with the demise of "proper" apprenticeships and the rise of fast-track courses it can only get worse.
