Hello, was just wondering if anyone could help. My mate owns a plumbing company and has asked me to do all his electrical work, from wiring heater systems to complete re-wires. As I'm to be laid off soon it seems pretty tempting. The only thing that is worrying me is signing off my work. I have a completed Appreticship, Nvq lv2&3 and am2 and pretty confident in testing. I was speaking to a fellow spark at work who said all I'd need to do is get public liable insurance and some test forms from wholesalers and fill them in as long as I'm "compotent" ??!! This all seems a little too easy to me?!?! I thought I'd need to do my 2391, part P, join up with someone like the ECA/NIC etc, etc. Someone please tell me I'm wrong and he is right?? Haha.

Your best way forward is to join an approved scheme provider such as nic elecsa nappit ect. If your thinking of signing off your own work without being in one of these your going to find it expensive and not practicle. You will need to arrange for labc to come out to every job you do, and thats not cheap.
Bottom line, join a scheme provider for part P.

By the way. The 2391 is worth going for but not essential. 17th edition is along with public liability of 2 million for domestic installer.;)

I have sat the 2391, but never got my final result! I passed the practical, but during the 8 weeks waitin for my thoery result, I left the company. When I rang the college, they had sent my result to my old company as they paid for it! And noone would tell me if I had passed! Should have stayed for a few more weeks! Ha. Thanks for ya help, this job sounds abit more tempting now!

Phone CnG it doesnt matter who payed for the exam it was YOU who sat it or you could phone old employer and ask them to forward result to you

Ok, cheers. I'll try ringing them, would be a nice little bonus if I did have it.
