Yes but you will need to change the metal single back box for a double one

unless you got a decent multi tool blade you will struggle to get that back box out without causing too much decorative damage around it.
As daft as it might seem, you might find it easier to install an extra socket on the wall, keeping that one and fix it into the ring or radial that you have there.
All said and done some of the screw in adaptors that turn it into a double arent that bad looking. the schneider ones are good.

Hi, it is into a stud wall not solid, should be straight forward enough to cut out, just not sure on the wiring side of things. I am confident swopping like for like but that's as far as i have gone!

You could fix a surface back box (patress)over the hole, might need slightly longer 3.5mm screws.

Those lugs at the bottom where the wires enter look like conduit lugs so getting off that box will be your first problem. Getting a box back on to those lugs will be your second problem. Then if you manage to do that there is the problem of the length of the existing wires being too short to reach the terminals of the double socket being further apart. As I say a pig of a job if even doable.

That box looks like it is nailed in place along the back lower edge.

looking at existing wiring it seems that there is already a spur been wired off single socket ,If you decide to add another single socket next to existing single socket Wiring could be complicated for non sparky as you would need to split ring main wires
