I'm about to do my first sight survey. This will be for my MCS job with the NICEIC. To be honest i'm not 100% sure of what i'm doing but i think the only way to get to grips with it is to work one out.

I'll be measuring the roof, checking the exact direction it faces, working out the roof pitch angle, looking for shading. As well as all the normal issues with cable runs etc.

Should i be checking how much electricity the house is currently consuming? What if he wants a system that generates more than he consumes? is this allowed? Apparently the roof is fairly big, about 15m x 6m.

What else should i be considering?

How do i calculate how the pitch and any minor shading issues might effect the efficiency of the modules.

Sorry, lots of questions here. Any advice would be welcome.
