Hi guys I'm about to fit a six inch kitchen fan, the wall is constructed of engineering brick the mortar holding the wall together is very old and crumbling any tips about doing this job without brining the wall down ??

I would suggest fella you use a diamond cutter and do not use the hammer action on the drill, then use a 6" piece of drain pipe through the wall and cement around it.

In my neck of the woods 6 inch has always been the usual size for a kitchen fan

Get a oversized piece of chipboard with a 6inch hole, drill it to the wall then stitch drill the wall and chisel it out, remove wood and fit ducting, patching the very small bits that may need patching :)

you can also use an angle grinder with a cutting wheel on it cutting out small pieces at a time. (something like this)https://www.amazon.com/115mm-Diamond-Cutting-Grinder-Concrete/dp/B00KDJ4KMM
remove enough brick to make the hole and install the drain pipe as mdj stated when mixing your new mortar add diatomaceous earth to the mortar it will be very sticky and quite hard when dry.
you can get this stuff from a pool supply company or store
