Smoke Alarms?

Hi guys, I need to know if it is now compulsory to install a mains fed smoke alarm in a new kitchen and diner extension area and if so what about the existing installation?

Its not just new builds it applies to, its rewires too, and I'm lead to believe that some LABC's are applying it to extensions too!

Hi,

You can wire them from a local, generaly used lighting circuit as long as it has a means of isolating the smokes without interupting the lights. If all the circuits are RCD protected there is an advantage in supplying the smokes from a regularly used lighting circuit.
