Hi, I want to move a socket from behind a fitted wardrobe.

Is it OK to wire a plug to a double surface mounted socket and then plug this into the socket behind the wardrobe?

Thanks

Jonny

It is a poor approach but it would be safe to install like this, do not use twin and earth cable as it is too rigid to be in a plug top, use flexible cable and ensure the cable cannot be damaged.
Alternatively get an electrician to install a spur for you.

Rather than wire a twin socket up like this, I would just use a good quality pre-made extension cable. Obviously in a ideal world you would get a socket wired in correctly by an electrician. Daz

Get one of these little beuties. Even says in description that it is stylish, so that is a bonus.

That would look awful - a 'Heath Robinson' way of adding a socket.
Ideally the circuit needs extending or modifying properly, but alternatively you could just crack on and do it anyway.

It won't be pretty, and it's not the way I'd do it, but it is sure as hell a better and safer way for a diyer to do it than having a go at altering/extending the fixed installation.
