I had a customer ring me a moment ago, I fitted a double socket directly into consumer unit in the meter cupboard, joined into the same breaker as the downstairs ring.
she says one side of the socket works, but the other side has stopped! it has no power! given its fed by just one cable as a spur it seems a bit odd, the ring its fed from is working fine and no faulty sockets. the cable to socket is clipped direct and is around 40 cm long and unlikely to be an issue as one side still works.
I cant go and check until next week, but given its a Hager double socket I fitted, i am surprised for one to fail, especially so soon. Maybe I am too confident in Hager products?
Anybody got any ideas on causes other than simple failure of device? given the left side outlet works but its only the right side that's stopped?
Surely if there were loose wires etc it would impact both sides of the same socket as its all linked in the back?

well I cant take it back to supplier as such as it was in my van stock of lucky dip Hager items I have had for a while, I will though buy a new one and then take it back. Figure the supplier makes enough out of me as it is.

Gavin, just change the offending socket, is it realy worth contesting this issue?:D

Oh dont worry @Pete999 I will change it anyway no problem there as I got a van full, but I fully intend to buy a new socket afterwards to replenish the stock in van wait a week then take the dud one in for a refund on a subsequent visit! It all came from Denmans at one stage or another anyway over the last couple of years, Just cant be sure when....
Just unusual to have a Hager product fail and so quick!

Oh right

Ha ha - yes Pete have no fears. It's the affluence of incahol that's making me write silly things, rather than just think them o_O .

I was expecting you to say it was a BG dsso at first Gavin! I usually fit Hager as standard, and have never had any problems to my knowledge in many years now..
