Hi all

Got a call about a fault. The problem is that the downstairs ring keeps tripping at around half 10 every night. My ??, is there some sort of part that kicks in on the freezer at nights??? Seeems odd that it happens at the same time every night.

thanks any info would be great

I once had a similar problem. Got sorted once we found the mouse that was chewing on the cable !!!!

Best regards,
Sav

Is that when they make a cuppa and boil the kettle, while the dishwasher and washing machineares running - could be a general overload of the circuit

Yes it certainly sounds like it may be a faulty appliance.

I think you need to carry out an IR test on property and see if a circuit shows up some abnormal results.

WONDER IF HE SAT IN THE HOUSE TILL IT TRIPPED LOL

SOZZ for caps oops Had a fault like this years n years ago power would trip after lunch we ended up going and watching what happened as when the lady called n we attended tested everything was fine

she got up made a coffee for her and one for her bedbound husband then another for them both before filling a flask for him she then went to work came back n made them both a coffee n lunch then made herself a coffee n TRIP it was so simple the kettls spout was pointed up under the units and the condensation was running down into the socket building up over the day and tripping the rcd of course the time we took between call and attendance the condensation had dried out n Irs were ok Turned kettle spout round all ok

Hope its a simple appliance fault for you Cboy

could be the condenser on the freezer,i had similiar problem

Went today and buzzed out out the ring .36 for live and neutral and .61 for earth I/R >299 r1+r2 = .22 interconnected L1 TO N2 and all that was fine also!! My original ? was that is there something in a freezer that could trip it out??? Its my mates dad so i have told him to un plug tbe freezer from 9 till 11 and see if it is this as all other equip is dissconnected!!! How can u test a fridge foe leakage anyway???

many thanks

Auto defrost on the freezer, a heating element kicks every 24 hours for the defrost cycle if this is faulty it will trip the RCD. It is normally quite easy to disconnect the element if this is the problem while you source another element

Had this problem a few times

Hi all,

As i said i advised him to switch the fridge freezer off between 9 and 11 and so far nothing has tripped!! so 99.9% job done!! The unit is under warranty so he is calling out the "fridge dude" LOL today.

Thanks for all the input appreciate it :D
