Hi
I've bought a new face plate for the plug socket in the bedroom. I went to install it so i turned the electrics off and all the lights go off fine but the plug sockets in the bedrooms upstairs and the living room at the front of the house remain active. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is? Our electrics are rather old but surely they should still turn off?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying. I turned off the two switches circled in the attached image.

Right thanks, what exactly made you think that the sockets were still active your words not mine?
Did you carry out the safe isolation procedure?

My guess is that there is a 2nd fuseboard ...... with more fuses or breakers....

You are wise to question what you appear to have noticed!

No i didn't carry out this test but everything that was plugged into the bedroom socket was still lit up and turned on ?

Hi IPF i have just looked and the tails go up into a black box that isn't very easy to get to or see but it appears to be another switch that i didn't know was there. I imagine this must be the switch to the remaining active sockets? which i imagine is the answer to my problem, i'll try this in the morning to see if i get any luck.

Hi bud,i would be very careful with an old, possibly frangible switch, such as that, bearing in mind the lack of ready isolation possible.
