I am adding a fuse box to a campervan to run lights etc off the leisure battery.
The existing circuits are fused at 15 amps so I am using 21a cable.
But the spade connectors I have are rated at 15a? I thought all spade connectors were the same as most don't give a rating?
Will these do or will they melt along with the fuse?
Thanks

15 amp will be fine, it will take a lot more than 15 amps to melt them.

Hi,that rating of maximum current, with your spade or Lucar type connectors,is dependant on correct crimping (if not soldered).

Some of the cheaper crimping tools, are only fit for marking out lengths of spaghetti :) and will run the risk of problems later...it's advice which BMW's R&D department could have took on board, with their inflammable series 1...

Current rating of connectors of this kind also depends on the quality of the connector, the number if times it has been fitted and removed, how carefully it was aligned as it was pushed on, ambient temperature, cleanliness, atmospheric pollutants etc. In practice the number quoted (15A) is a guideline - They sometimes last fine with 25A load, sometimes burn out with 10A. I only ever use branded connectors from AMP, Tyco, Lucas etc, with the correct tool and prep, and perhaps not surprisingly seem to have less hassle than most.
