Discuss Star Delta starter Fault... in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

As part of my oral exam (oo err!) for my marine engineer license we get asked electrical questions. One such question that's been asked is " What would happen if a Star Delta Starter didn't change over and continued to run in Star and what would you do if it had to keep running in star?" Ie part of some critical machinery that couldn't be stopped.I assume it would run hotter but not too sure why? I appreciate Star Configuration is reduced voltage (starting ie 1/ root 3 so 254V from 440V compared to full 440V for DOL) But Is it because it might stall slightly due to reduce voltage and same load therefore run at increased slip and hence draw more current?Any help would be much appreciated?
