Ive just been offered a position with the National grid on a three year apprenticeship. I'm a "mature"(30 year old).

Ive worked in retails for the last 5 years getting no where and already have a Geography degree(half arsed). But do have a electronics A level and still like to fiddle and mess with smaller electronics stuff but nothing this big.

Anyone been through/ going through and got any advice?

Can I ask where you will be doing your technical units for the 2339 qualification? If you know yet?

I have spoken to a lot of apprentices that work for Northern Power, not just fitting (sub stations) but jointing and over head lines, they have all said it can be really rewarding but hard work as well. Which location will you be working in?

Chances like this don't happen that often, bite their hands off and good luck

To the OP take the job the 3 years will pass buy, it should be a job for life with a decent prospect of moving upwards through the ranks, it will be a lot better and more rewarding then selling shirts in a windowless shop in a shopping centre.

Something in retail @Pete999 so a positive is definitely coming from this. All the best Steven. Work hard, learn harder and enjoy that journey.
