Evening all, new member but looking forward to helping out where i can :)

When terminating SWA is it acceptable to have the “Packing” (the PVC between the armour and the single cores) exposed ?

I.E terminating into a box then having the packing exit the box leaving it exsposed and then enter into another accessory to be terminated. I hope this is understandable as not really sure how to explain it.

Thanks in advanced :D

It all depends on the environment and installation method the sheathed cable would be exposed to.

The application i am thinking is running SWA outside a house up the wall into the roof space and then terminating into a box and dropping the “packing” down into a switch for a shower. I know i can do this with PVC (T&E) but as the part of the SWA I’m referring to is called “packing” rather than sheath i was a bit unsure

Buy some PVc flexible conduit and run it down in that.

But it certainly does a better job than the conductors on their own for some mechanical protection and definitely better than putting a joint in it and taking T+E to the end point.
The other times this will be done is extending out from an FCU in a house to an adaptable box on the outside where the SWA is glanded in that box and the conductors in bedding are taken through the wall (preferably in a conduit) to the FCU.
As long as the run is very short and direct otherwise I'd be inclined to put it in flexi conduit.
