Good evening chaps, ran a slave socket off the master telephone point using contacts 3 and 5 as i always do, the slave socket will ring from an incoming call and has dial tone but will not make or answer a call. I am thinking maybe i need to connect terminal 2 as well but just after some clarifacation as i am not the best with telephones. Cheers guys

The client is trying to use 2 different sets of phones to save buying one bigger set. I wasnt sure if this would cause a conflict on the line but the client assures me it worked fine in their previous home

Yeah i find it odd to have a dial tone but not be able to dial out or receive calls, i shall connect terminal 2 and see if this fixes it

The line connections are 2 and 5, the bell wire connection 3 need only be connected if the client uses the old style phone(s) with a mechanical bell mechanism. If you client is using broadband on this phone line then disconnection of the bell wire throughout the installation is advantageous as it sometimes causes interference reducing the available broadband download/upload speed.

3 is the ring circuit, 2 and 5 are the A leg and B leg, so you need to connect 2,3,and 5 if you get 2 and 5 crossed over i.e 2 on master to 5 on slave then phone will ring whenever you pick it up,this is something I saw a few times and drives people mad, extension bells should be wired across terminals 3 and 5, if wired across 2 and 5 the bell coil completes a DC path and the line appears engaged.hope someone finds this useful.
