Using a low ohm meter (or multimeter)Is it possible to place 1 probe on the incomming earth at the CU and the other probe on (disconnected) earth rod to get the resistance of the rod (minus the external earth path which forms part of the Ze, wander leads etc). I know its not the correct instrument to use however should this method not work?? After all, if we assume worst case the Ze is 0.35 including the line conductor. Has anyone tried this method? I dont have a ELZ instrument.

in a nutshell no!!!! you wont get a reliable reading if any If you can get an ELI tester you can use that (method 2 GN3)

Also i do dought if you will get a readng of 0.35 from an earth rod If there is a main earth rod is it a tt system? If so you are looking for a reading under 200ohms or lower as well as RCD protection on everything.
