Hi all, a question aimed more at my fellow Scottish members, I've recently moved into a flat that is on the above tariff. I am billed two amounts - heating and domestic, obviously with storage heaters and off peak water on lower rate, and power/lights on normal rate. My question is what rate is the rest of the heating likely to be on (shower, panel heaters in bedroom, focal point and fan heater)? I've not had a chance yet to trace the tails as it's a rented flat and it's a bit of a mess between the boards and meters.

Should mention it's a split tariff board with power on top and heating below split over 3 main switches, off peak water, storage heaters & the rest.

EDIT: Should also add I've spoke to two people at SSE who've both given me different answers!

Just did a Google search on this tariff and a lot of the results suggest that this is a Scottish Hydro tariff that is miss billed by other suppliers.

As usual these days it is impossible to find the rates being charged to do any meaningful comparison with other options and tariffs

When the system originally came out the lower priced tariff applied to direct heating as well as storage charge. Do you still have the remote control box which sets the amount of charge to the storage heaters? (can't remember the terminology, was it "teleswitch")

Tell me about it!

Yeah the meter is the teleswitch.

Have just had another look and discovered there is actually 3 separate live tails coming from this meter, I'm guessing one for each main switch.

I think I might have just answered my own question without having to dig much deeper. Ignoring domestic side, 3 separate lives coming from heating meter, 1. for storage heaters, 2. for water heater and 3. for immersion, panel heaters & shower. Only logical answer Is that 1 and 2 are on at set times determined by supplier and heating can be boosted separately during the day by themselves in colder weather and 3 is permanently live. All 3 of which obviously being charged through heating meter therefor at lower rate!

Would this sound right?

That sounds correct. As originally implemented the Total Control system consisted of the storage heating which was charged for times determined by the Hydro Board and controlled via the Teleswitch. Part of the deal was that direct heat was at the same tariff so that if you didn't get enough charge in the storage heaters there was no penalty for using direct. Does the teleswitch still operate in the original way, giving varying amounts of charge depending out the weather?

Sounds like White Meter Weatherwatch.
They switch the radio teleswitch times depending on the forthcoming weather in your area.

Yes, I've been told these times are preset up to 30-days in advance anything from 6-10 hours over the course of the day.
