Hi All

I have come across two 3 phase in line WOODS fans rated @ 0.22 kW / 0.6 amps connected together on one overload. This does not seem correct is there anyway this could be right ?

wrong to me, not dangerous just doesn't really protect as it should.

Woods dual impeller fans were often connected like that. It’s 20 odd years since I worked on them. If your worried about it change it for one contactor with two O/L units but if it’s a Woods own brand starter, best of luck! They were tight on space at the best of times.

It’s important that they start and stop together so one contactor with two O/L units is the best way.

I don't think motors < 0.37kw require overloads yet this setup offers phase loss/imbalance protection and overload indication.

What is the overload set to?

As memory serves, that’s the basis of the original Woods starters.
Basically keep it simple.

The ones I worked on dated from the early 50’s (just older than me before you lot start), the only time they failed was when a kiln backfired and the fan motors got fried.

I would have said it was roasted more than fried:yes::teeth_smile:

Hi all
Thanks for your thoughts . Overloads are rated for both to run together I was wondering if any regulations are in place to avoid running more that one motor on one overload ?

Regards
John

If you are using the original Woods starters then you are going by the manufacturers recommendations.

All of the overloads are Alan West : controlled by
Enbray contactors .
This set up is used through out the site for AHU extract and supply fans.

Christ, are you working in a museum?

How long have these motors been like that? Are they working OK?

Unless you’re trying drum up business for unnecessary work, leave it alone.
