Hi All,

To me 522.8.10 is quite clear, armoured or the like (concentric) underground unless in a conduit that offers protection equal to that of armoured.

However just had a scouse wide boy "electrician" come back from a job with the armoured cable and glands he'd been sent with..."didn't need them mate"

I know the cable has gone underground and I know he has used T&E run in PVC conduit.

Is there any way that this could be considered compliant....ever..even the most tenuous link to compliance that the gobshite could come out with?

Thanks

Well for direct burial swa is the way to go however a twin and earth cable installed in a material such as polypropylene or similar material ducting ,giving adequate mechanical protection is acceptable.

Can someone point me to where I can get this plastic ducting that gives equivalent mechanical protection as SWA?

Seriously is there a manufacturer that certify a product as giving mechanical protection equal to that of SWA?

If its in protection from start to finish then its probably OK - BUT not something I would do..

A cable in a duct should be buried at a suitable depth say 600mm and marked by means such as marker tape or cable tiles all should give adequate mechanical protection.
Bs en 61386-24 is the Standard for underground conduits.

Tiles ...pha ,
kerb stones , slabs,bricks ... yeh-more macho !
Proper garden fork defence.
(always use protection)
