Ok i know some people dont like them and i know they should not be relied on but i find they have there uses especially for fault finding

My old RS one has just broke, i have tried a couple of others and they dont seam as good.
So does any one have any recommendations

Yep my main work is fault finding and it comes in handy but and i say but I dont trust it as far as i can throw it so I always test it on a known live source and if I have to dimantle anything then the tester comes out .

One example today tenant had a faulty lampholder on a pendant plus 2 table lights not working traced to 2 dud 3 amp fuses no tester brought out just used the volt stick so in this case a big time saver

use the fluke pro230. this has a fork in the end so that it has to have a live cable in the forek to light up. very useful in a bunch of cables.

I use a Fluke VoltAlert 1 AC-E II. It works great, but it hasn't got a fork in the end.
Of course voltsticks shouldn't be relied on for safe isolation, but they have their uses.

I carry a pair of snips 100% effective at detecting live wires!!!!!! and usually have the added bonus of tripping the circuit without need to trace it.

When I'm trying to identify which circuit to switch off I like to hear or see the effect of turning off a circuit breaker or isolating switch. For sockets I use a Martindale BZ101 Buzz It. For other circuits I sometimes wedge a voltstick (can't remember which make and it's out in the van) against the cable and listen, but it's a bit quiet. Does anyone know of one of these things with a good loud buzz or whistle which doesn't need a button holding in for it to work?

I used to carry an apprentice who was sure to scream if the circuit he was working on was live. Now I carry a fluke which has the benefit of not demanding holiday pay and it fits in your pocket. Sorted!

I have a Fluke 1AC, I also have another good one I bought off ebay, works just as good and probably came from the same place.....they are on ebay for £2.00 from the far east and I have bought a few already to give to people I worked with, I keep a few spare incase somebody asks to borrow, as they never get given back anyway, only problem is the post, I bought a batch of 3 from the internet about 7 weeks ago and they didn't turn up.....which happens quite a bit now with un-registered parcels coming in via the post here...even parcels inside the UK be warned you should really get at least recorded delivery as there's a lot of pilfering these days everywhere...

Buy online inside UK £25.00+ delivery
Buy in shop in UK £25.00+ it will be here for you to pick up a week on Tuesday
Buy in Electrical wholesaler in UK .....£25.00 (gets out wallet).....Aplus AtheVat ....(puts wallet away)

Buy on Ebay £2.00 including the post and packaging.......problem solved :)
