Discuss Voltage Detectors & Proving Units... in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Martindale seems to be a popular choice.

I've got a Fluke voltage detector and a Socket & See proving unit. Cost me approx £85 combined.

Had a Di-Log for a year` but just had to send it back due to fault (not sure what yet). Just bought a steiner (I think that is how it is spelt, sounds like type of piano).
I also like my fluke volt stick (horror of horrors I hear everyone say, ban the volt stick), blah blah I will keep using my trusty frined.

I use the fluke multi tester with the clamp meter incorporated, never let me down yet and the digital voltage readings are handy for a quick volt drop verification! ;)
I think my proving unit's a Black star or something from RS components. Again, years old and does the job.

Remember, volt drop can only accurately be measured with a loaded circuit.

There is also the T5-600 available.

Only measures upto 600V AC/DC as opposed to 1000V AC/DC on the T5-1000 so is a little cheaper.

The added bonus of the current clamp is handy little feature.

Depends on your requirements really.

I loves my T5-1000 though.:)

Excellent, thanks. Good advice. It appears the Martindale does have competition.... How about the proving units, or are people mainly using a known live to test?
