Hi,

I’ve been asked by a family member to fit a water feature into their back garden. The feature consists of a pump & LED.However I’m a marine electrician and I’m not very clued up on the regs etc of the domestic world.

My plan was to spur off an outside socket using 2.5mm SWA cable to a ip55 13A socket + switch (product link below). I would Feed the switch via a link inside the switch/socket unit. However, after looking into it I read when tapping off a socket it is usually required to be fused. I’m not able to find a switch/socket unit with a fuse on the switch anywhere. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find one?

If not, I assume I’ll need to pick up two separate units and put a short distance of SWA between the socket & switch?

If I do this would I be complying with the regs?

Many Thanks!

this water feature, does it have a fitted plug?

Nor the best choice of socket either there is a lost better quality out there. I would have thought it was radial circuit existing outside already and not an exterior ring so why the need for the FCU

It Doesn’t have a fitted plug

I’m pretty sure it is part of the downstairs ring main circuit, however this is something I need to check now you’ve mentioned it.

That outlet - I think it's not IP55 once you plug anything in, as you can't close the lid. This work would need testing and a minor works certificate, have you got test gear?
