Hi

This is a junction / isolate / led / fused box that supplies a digital shower mixer. it does not heat water, it just regulates the flow.
The shower stopped working and the led was off on the switch.
So i opened it to investigate.
I was surprised to so so many wires.

What would cause this burning to the wires? see photo

Thank you for any advice.

Loose connections would cause burning

as did joan of arc.

wonder if that's where the term arcing came from.
Got it from a reliable source Tel, Arcing is derived from the exclamation, "Arc it that something on fire, or Ark at that crackling noise coming from that switch" nothing to do with the Maid of Orleans.

And why oh why when there is a loose connection on a shower is it always the N!! Granted, the OP is probably not drawing much.

I would happily wager £500 that on the next 'my shower isn't working' call that it will be the neutral.

I did read a possible explanation once on IET website, think resonance was something to do with it, but cannot recall correctly. But it wasn't necessarily to do with N's not being tightened enough...

Sorry, gone off on a little tangent there!

I am wandering what the blackish marks are on the metal link between the two mounting screws??

I know where you're coming from but the last one I had (two days ago) was on the phase conductor.

corrosion caused by condensation.

A bad connection would be my option, all this Scientific Carp, next we will be saying it's Phaser burn, or a blast from a Klingon Disrupter, or is that a Romulan weapon?

It's always amusing to see the screw caps still parked in the back of accessories which have been ignored :)

They weren't fitted because of the colour of them! It's disgraceful, they should be white too match the fronts....!
