Switched energy supplier to SSE a while ago and have chased for a smart meter to be installed. They say they cannot fit one as my current meter (and old first utility smart meter) is a cycle 6 and their meters wont work with it as its too powerful (or the supply is too powerful).
I have never heard of this and cant find anything on google, would love to know just out of interest. Given i cant find anything about this and last time i spoke to them they thought i had a 3 phase supply i feel like SSE are just fobbing me off with some BS.

Welcome to the forums :)

Like most electrical equipment, electricity meters have a maximum current rating. If your supply is fused at 100A and the meter can only handle 80A, there is a chance it may implode before the fuse does under fault conditions. Under normal use it would probably be OK, but no one is going to take that chance, as electrical gear exploding under high load can be quite impressive :)

but why on this earth would you want a fart meter.
