Discharged

All I know about this thermostat is that it is inline, and has a couple of indicator lights on it, the purpose of which I do not understand. This photo shows heat traced pipe, I think.

If it is known hereabouts on the forum, is there an opinion on its reliability and durability at all? Anyone know who makes it and where to get them from? Is it British made? Or is it foreign?

Above all, is it any good? Reliable? Can it take knocks? It looks to me on the face of it to be made from a brittle plastic, but that could be deceptive.

Many thanks. First post, pls be gentle!

It is a trace cable and is designed to prevent a pipe from freezing, usually a condensate pipe on a boiler.
If the temperature drops below a set level, usually 5 degrees if my memory serves me correctly it heats up

Yes, but that thermostat - anyone know where it is made? What is the quality like?

Hi mate, As you have found out it's a frost thermostat. The frost thermostat switches the trace heating on when the ambient temperature drops below typically 5°C, warming the pipework to prevent freezing. There are usually two indicator lights, one indicates power available and the other indicates ambient temperature below the set frost threshold and the trace cable heating the pipework. Each trace heating cable manufacturer has their own custom accessories for the system. Raychem produce a particularly reliable system. I often used their accessories on other unknown systems when needing to source spares.
