Hi Guys,

I am newly MCS accredited and have had a roofer approach me and ask me to install and commissiong a pv tile system(tiles are c21e solar tile, from solar centuray). It has 2 invertors, one invertor for18 of the tiles at 47 watt each and the other invertor for 12 tiles at 47 watt each. The 18 are west facing and the 12 south. I suspose i have a few questions, so here goes.

would you use 2 seperate 4mm cables to each invertor or just one and and isolate that ,
would you have all tiles on 1 string for each invertor, or a row of tiles per string (what advatages /disadvantages are there)
has anyone used these tiles
and what wuold you charge

I have a lot to learn , and would appreciate feed back

Chris

You should run each inverter off a seperate CB in the CU.

As for the string connections, which inverters are you using and are there any shading issues at the site?

there are no shading problems. Why would you use different strings, do they over ride each other? The invertors are a sunnyboy 1200 and a small one i had never heard off somthing 600 ( looks cheap and chinese)

( looks cheap and chinese)

Love this quote - nice one - if it looked cheap and was Japenese would it be any better? bearing in mind most of the stuf in our homes today comes from China.

I would ping Solarcentruary an email and ask them for the design, chances are they have already quoted this for the roofer and will have all the design spec on file.

No it wouldnt be any better , it would just be cheap looking and Japenese.Plus how do you know most of the stuff in my house comes from China ? or is it you with pre set ideas about chinese things?

Any way back to my questions, i will 'Ping' an email to solarcentuary and see what they say (hopfully not a chinese ping),

Thanks for your in depth reply , which has answered all my questions

The reason for splitting into strings is to combine and add V and A to get the best out of the inverter. At 47W per tile, you are probably looking at 1 possibly 2 strings depending on the operating voltage parameters of the inverter and the voltage output of the tiles.
