Agree with westward, those screw caps are not insulation and can be removed/fall out without the use of a tool in any case.
Just switching on common sense not to mention the behind of them could easily be touching goodness knows what, maybe metal studwork which has other steel fixings hanging shelves and loo roll holders. The back box is the single line of protection and any plasterboard is just a bonus.

midwest would you agree to do a substandard job because of cost restraints or some arsehole told you to do it to earn a few extra £'s, or would you allow work like that to be carried out at your house? I have never ever heard of caulk being use around faceplates to "tidy" them up.

Some people really must have low standards of workmanship and the acceptance of bodges no wonder the trade is going downhill.

Looks like midwest prefers checking spelling to doing a proper job........ ;o)))))

Only did the spelling thing as rouse, I was feeling mischievous; don't think you spelt anything incorrectly? :D

Why do people get all excited when someone disagrees with them.

The practise of decorating after faceplates fitted is quite normal. As said, saves the painter coming back to snag the other trades dirty finger marks etc etc. Walls are often spray painted, so coming back will need a different application & look carp. Therefore faceplates are taped up & caulked up after if necessary. In my experience, most painter prefer to come along after 2n fix, some even with down lights. The finish is 'top notch & not a bodge'.

Course if having your pile refurbished in W8, you could afford the painter to come back & forth, then the electrician, then the painter etc. On a new build, thats not going to happen.

Whats everyones thoughts on this picture ? It was taken in a new build property.
The contractors are still building over the road and the electricians are still working on the building site.
Obviously everyone can see no identification on the switch wires but most of the switches do. What bugs me is the connector block on the CPC, why the hell haven't they taken it to the metal backbox. They have done this on every switch.
I was going to pull them up but every switch has got the little plastic caps over the 3.5mm screws so technically there is no exposed metal.

The only reason I can think they do this is to save time when second fixing, as I guess feeding the switch means multiple CPCs to connect.

Anyone else this this is awful or is it just me.

I would defo earth the back box.

Not sure about complaining though, as virtually all new build sites are a bodge from start to finish with profit being the only important thing.

It is down to shoddy new build workmanship why we all have to fit metal consumer units now.
