Discuss When NOT to take neutrals to switches in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

This is a 2 way 2 gang dimmer switch, which has feed in/out, and 2 switched lives and neutrals. So 4 neutrals blocked in a connector block, which was then put behind the switch as there was no room inside (only a 25 mm back box used), and the feeds had to blocked as 'the installer' could not get 3 cables into the terminal. Thus resulting in 4 feeds in another block. Resulting in the switch not being able to go back because of the depth if the dimmers !!!

Yeah these new wiring methods are great !!! Lol

FAIL!!!!

Thats MAD 25mm box for grid dimmers ffs youd be lucky to fit them with only lives n switchwires probably compress cores on back box just LAZY sod now raggling deeper box

Why didnt they just put feed in to one switch feed out to the other and a link between the 2?

Albeit it should have a deeper box though

The feed (and switch line) would have to be doubled up with the strappers, meaning thus you cannot get 3 cables into the terminals!

47mm back box any time a dimmer is required is becoming standard practice for me. You never know when the customer is going to change their mind about their wiring accessories and demand flat plate metal! Also helpful when you want to take the neutrals to a dimmer!

Could be worse.

Here's one to ponder.

3-gang 2-way switch.

3 different circuits looping through it.

Each switch controls two lights, and because of how/where they are located each one has its own switch cable.

How many conductors in the box?

I count 12x twins and 3x 3 cores so 33x live conductors and 15x CPC = 48 wires! That's a lot of copper at one switch!
