Hello all, I've just moved into a new flat. It's only about 6 years old, so a pretty new build.

The hallway and 2 living area light fittings are standard B22 lights, but the 2 bedrooms have a weird fitting that looks more like the sort you plug a halogen bulb into, like a GU10 bulb, only they currently have weird eco bulbs that give off a horribly dim greenish light. I want to fit just standard B22 fittings, which I know should be pretty straightforward, so that everything is the same.

My concern is whether there'd be a reason for them not doing that in the first place? There is a label on the current fitting that says "Fit dedicated L-1 self-ballasted CFL only. 25w max." Image attached.

25w seems quite low power, and I'm not really sure what the rest of it all means. Are these warnings just a limitation of the current fitting that wouldn't be an issue with new B22 fittings, or is this a more complex issue?

Thanks for your help!

I agree CFL may be what's advised in this but LED is far better would have been better with normal b22s but easy to replace anyway

Odd fittings that only allowed CFL lamps were briefly fashionable a few years ago. Now that CFLs are replaced by LEDs, the folly of non-standard lamp holders is obvious.

Replace the lamp holders with standard B22 ones and fit LED lamps (or E27 fittings, if you prefer) and get rid of all the CFLs.

There used to be a requirement for energy efficiency that related to the building regulations that meant that some light fittings in a property needed to be forced to be energy efficient by installing a dedicated lamp holder.
This has been superseded for many years now and the current building regulations related requirement is to have 75% energy efficient (<=45lm/W) lighting inside a dwelling, which will be covered by fitting LED light bulbs.

or candles.:D:D:D.

Essentially its a regulation issue. As mentioned part L and also planning permission around here often specifies it.
My flat is 4 years old and has these lamos. I have also wired some new build properties and these were specified in the design spec.
In my own place i swapped the lamp holder for a bayonet fitting one. The lamps are more available plus i have mine linked to amazon alexa.

In the days when you had to fit CFL's in a %age of rooms, it was a complete waste of time as when people moved in they took down the fitting and replaced with a decorative light taking a number of tungsten lamps.
