Some electric tankless shower water heaters have inbuilt ELCB. Are they better than Triton water heaters which don't have it ? and does Triton tankless water heaters have any inbuilt security? Or an external RCD is better ?
I would say an external RCD is better as it protects the cable as well, so insulation damage to the cable leading to a shock risk, or maybe fire risk, have a chance also of tripping the RCD.
For UK regulations these days all circuits to a shower/bathroom need to be RCD protected for that sort of reason.
RCD it up for the effort it would take I would suggest. Look at the EV fiasco starting to take shape where no RCDs have been fitted and now warranties are being refused.
