I noticed an external contractor installing some SY in our factory the other day, and he wasnt using the traditional SY glands but what seemed to be a stuffing gland with leafsprings that press against the Braiding... Wtf is with that? cant be a good electrical connection and looks crap! ewwww! anyone else seen these? discuss.

A couple of jobs i've been given stuffing glands to terminate SY cable.
Usually metal glands though that do get a good contact , but they are complete faff to do and dont look too clever admittedly.
All at bit meh really lol.

Considering SY cables generally were designed for signals, it could be argued that the electrical connection to the braiding provides an adequate earth for the shielding. although, considering sy is also used alot for power cables nowadays the integrity of the electrical connection to earth under fault conditions could very well be inadequate, could be an interesting read maybe worth a look on the interwebz .
