Having a slight argument with a supposed electrician

Now I always thought when flush fitting an internal double socket to to an external wall. It's safer to use the metal boxes

Now the guys is going to use a plastic box (I actually thought these were for stud walls.

I asked if it would be safer just to surface mount and he went through me saying metal boxes are rubbish they rust. (Weird how they've been used for alot of years)

I thought it would be best to ask here

Thanks in advance

If it's damp enough for a galv. steel box to rust when sunk in a wall, then it's too damp for any flush box in the wall! Socket will be affected by damp which will show up on future IR readings.
Either fit surface boxes, or you could try the method I've used 100's of times over the years - dig an oval shaped hole out of the wall, about ten times the volume of the metal box, rough render the inside of the hole, coat the render with a couple of coats of tanking compound, suspend the box in its exact place with a piece of batten fixed across the front of the box and fixed to the wall either side, and then fill in the hole around the box with mortar.
How much would that cost the customer? - crackin’ idea though!

My 'typical' domestic job over the years has been as part of a total refurb in large rural properties. , so in the grand scheme of things, not a significant extra expense, especially if there's a plasterer following me around.

For starters is the wall exposed to rain?
If so you will need surface mounted ones with IP66 - protected from water splash.
