Multifunctional Testers - Which one have you got and how long has it lasted?

Trusty old Dilog 9083P. Bought used from another spark who was upgrading. Very easy to use which makes it ideal for me. Worked well for 3 years and sails through its annual calibration.

RCD fused spur suitable or not?

Yes of course, thanks, just found it in BBB, 411.3.3. Should have looked all this up overnight but trawling through the BBB can have a strange effect on blokes working night shifts! Thanks again for the clarification. ATB Chris

RCD fused spur suitable or not?

Sorry folks, you are going to have to educate the factory bloke here! Does hard wiring it in to the existing FCU remove the need to provide rcd protection? Is this purely based on the fact that nothing is being altered on the circuit? Thanks and ATB Chris

RCD fused spur suitable or not?

I did suggest a board swap and explained the benefits but they were not keen. They like having folks they know doing any work and when I explained I couldn't do it without the extra costs to notify building control, they were even less keen!

RCD fused spur suitable or not?

Thanks all for your advice. The 16A circuits tests out fine so I have no problems there, it is still connected at the board end. The house was built in 1982 and has been owned by the same couple who have had very little done to it so the installation is pretty much untouched and very tidy. I...

RCD fused spur suitable or not?

Good Evening All, I have been asked by the family of some elderly neighbours to install a socket in an understairs cupboard for a small chest freezer and add a lighting point in the same cupboard. Installation is protected by a Wylex 3036 rewireable board so had no rcd protection and the...

    Belling Oven fault

Good morning all, Spent a few hours checking bits and pieces yesterday and decided to order a new element and give that a go as everything is pointing to the element being the culprit. Original looked and tested OK. New one arrives this morning so hopefully the kids can be fed as normal...

    Belling Oven fault

Hello All, I never have a great deal of luck when it comes to domestic appliances! We have a Belling fan oven which when the temperature dial is turned up, immediately blows the 13amp plug fuse, trips the MCB and takes out the RCD for good measure. I was assuming U/S element so have removed...

    12v drill driver

I have the M12 Milwaukee as in Andy's post above, great bit of kit, gets far more use than the M18 version. I only run it on the 2Ah batteries, plenty of power and run time. ATB Chris

    Zdb testing on busbars

The only way I can think of taking a Zs reading at the busbar connection point is using the socket on a short cable is mentioned in my original post. The fuse connections etc within the tap off box are isolated as soon as the cover is opened. I can of course, take Zs at the end of the assembly...

    Zdb testing on busbars

Thanks for your reply Rob, that makes complete sense. I will have to ask the lads installing the busbar for the Zdb reading, it is being connected to an ancient MiniForm board which our landlord refuses to let us anywhere! No problem with the Zs at the other end. Thanks again for your help...

    Zdb testing on busbars

Hello All, New assembly line going in at factory I work at. All single phase assembly stations with lights and sockets or screens and tooling etc. All our existing lines are supplied via local distribution boards but this new line is having a Zucchini 3 phase overhead busbar installed. When...

    C&G 2392-10 Fundermental Inspection & Testing

Thanks both for your replies. The 2391 certainly opens up more options but as I said above, I dont think I am anywhere even close to tackling it. Birmingham Electrical Training were my first port of call, sadly, due to lack of demand, they do not have any dates for 2392. I am on their waiting...

    C&G 2392-10 Fundermental Inspection & Testing

Hello All, Company I work for have at long last agreed to let me do the 2392 fundermental inspection & testing course (would have ideally gone straight for 2391 but my testing knowledge is limited and I know I would struggle with it) I now need to pick one of the many training centres which...

Time for new battery tool kit

Changed from Bosch (old NiCad stuff) to Milwuakee back in the summer. No complaints as yet, handled everything I have thrown at it. They are heavy when compared to Dewalt but it's not a major problem. Can find some decent prices on bare tools if you shop around online. Managed to find the M18...
