Hi SES,
"Im more wondering about the 1 cpc on ring when socket circuit drops from trunking to socket outlets?"
I am having a bit of a senior moment with the above statement, can you explain a bit more? How old is the install, and what are the general ambient conditions like. If it is clean dry...
OK, difficult, but off the top of my head I would test earth continuity and resistance from each socket back to MET or distribution panel, and if it is within limits It passes. If there is a variation in readings, time to start checking connections, best way is probably to flag it up as...
I am not going to labour this point, when we get into hovering over a bath holding a live conductor we have descended into unreality. 411.3.1.2 is quite clear and unequivocal
""In each installation main protective bonding conductors complying with chapter 54 shall connect to the main earthing...
"The whole idea of bonding is to reduce the possibility of a PD between conductive parts and extraneous conductive parts."
Exactly, that is why you bond the conductive parts to the extraneous conductive parts and connect all to the MET! then there is no possibility whatever of a PD arising.
Extraneous actually means, "of external origin" and having just checked in the BRB 411.3.1.2 is quite clear on this.
"In each installation main protective bonding conductors complying with chapter 54 shall connect to the main earthing terminal extraneous-conductive-parts including the...
"It is just as dangerous to 'bond' an isolated part that should not be 'bonded'."
Can you give me an example of this?
The problem is that everyone thinks the RCD is the universal cure all and makes all installations safe. There is a rule in engineering that states that "all mechanical devices...
This is more common sense that regulations, and in my estimation the answer is, if there is a possibility of a potential difference arising in a fault situation, which would be removed by bonding, then BOND IT. We should never use regulations as an excuse NOT to do something which enhances...
There really is a lot of talking bull ox here sometimes, the question is this, are you a "competent person" If so, you are going to a customers house to replace a consumer unit, to do that without isolating the supply presents a real danger to yourself, and to the customer. It is therefore...
It used to be illegal to resell electricity at at a higher price than the supply authority, nowadays, it's probably impossible.............................
Phil
Ok, the earth wires, (sorry circuit protection conductors) should have connectors on them, but other than that, where is the fault? This looks like it was installed in the early seventies, and has been working safely and efficiently since then. remember, 90% of the uk housing stock is wired...
Here we see how the scams and part PEE are driving standards and safety down, not up. If The customer has the choice of a proper job, or cheap, he will take cheap every time. The problem now is we have people with certificates and part p registration who are cowboys. and good sparks who do not...
