    Emergency Lighting Design

I have ordered a copy of BS5266 Manufaturers website will have a guide that will probably be easier to understand and will also have photometric data for spacings of fittings if required.

    16a socket

Here we all are discussing what was quite a straight forward question and after 3 pages there isn't a definitive answer. No wonder that we all do things our own way when the big green book is so grey!

    Lighting Layout

As Andy78 says, use the manufacturers. But don't forget the buck stops at you if there are any issues. I too have tried Relux but with limited success and have downloaded Dialux which I use as a guide to compare with manufacturer layout. From my college days it was always half distance from...

you're right, for that we need the Argos catalogue. Think the OSG says you should do it to the 'big book'.

    Rcd tripping

Poss faulty rcd, give it a ramp test, but most likely a faulty appliance. But I bet 'there was nothing plugged in, it just went off'

    Commercial Wiring Diagrams

Most manufacturers websites give design info ie thorn, jcc. Wholesalers (and manufacturers) can do lighting schemes but some want scaled drawings. Remember they want to sell you something so get them to do the work but make sure it's good as you will be responsible for it.

    testing of overloads

Have been advised by the guys on site that (they were told) motor ok for 24/7 operation. Didn't know if timer put in for energy saving or on manufacturers advice. If you want a job doing properly ............ New contactor & ol on order. Cheaper than 650 the new motor cost. Hopefully be...

    testing of overloads

Thanks all. I am concerned about the overload as the motor casing is badly damaged which would suggest that it was running for a while before it locked and burnt out and I would have thought this would have raised the loading. It ran under no load at the engineers so windings etc poss ok. I take...

    testing of overloads

Bear with me, I haven't seen the setup in question so I can only go on what I've been told........ We had a swimming pool pump that locked up after the bearing failed and then tripped the 63A/30mA rcd, presumably after the insulation had broken down. The pump runs through a contactor operated...

    Not a scam member???????????

DIY electrics and Part P; those two don't work together. I'm not P as on books so don't fully agree with it but it makes it hard for those who are to earn your crust. And I'm not going to start on Electrical Trainee. Should all 'competent persons' be badged and only those be allowed to buy, fit, test and...
