Started with a wind up Megger in 1981.
Worked on some pretty big cables around the world. But was young and got bored quickly.
Found computers in 1996 and switched trades. Thanks to Mr Gates making such a crappy operating system I was well paid for the next 10 years until I bought a printing business in 2006.
Well 2008 was a surprise and for the first time in my life I really wanted to strangle a banker. ANY banker.
Bankruptcy and unemployment after the age of 50 is a hard course, so I looked to the past and eventually came full circle.
Needing to update my (very aged) skills I looked for a course to get me back on track. A 3 -5 year City & Guilds program was definitely not going to happen. So I found the Domestic Electrical Installers scheme.
Originally brought in by the government to help EU workers adapt to the UK system It opened many doors for existing UK residents and quick buck colleges. This I learned later.
So, rightly or wrongly however any seasoned spark wants to view me.... I'm back, qualified and loving it.
I know my limits and advertise myself to them, but I will be doing some C&G Inspection and testing certs (2391-52 perhaps) to get myself more rounded.
I don't see myself expanding into commercial at this stage in my life, but who knows. Once the bug bites, it's hard to shake it off.
