Get the customer to get a quote from DNO to install up to where you really want the incoming cutout. If the customer is willing to dig the trench you may find there is not much in it cost wise and it will be done correctly.
As I understood it the DNO has no obligation to provide an earth but if they do provide one they are obliged to maintain it. If they were obliged to supply one then we would never need to use a TT system in domestic installations at least.
Normal pvc wiring and domestic type fittings will melt at wood burner temperatures. You would need to be looking at fittings used in industrial applications ie furnaces/industrial ovens.

i thought the tails had to be rcd protected...
