Thank you both for the help so far. Does anyone know of a website with a breakdown of lamp abbreviations ?

    Metal Halide Lamp codes/abbreviatios

Hello All, I've Google the above question and I cannot find a chart that gives the breakdown of what (for example) the following means: MHL 250W/C/V/ED28/PS/737 What I have so far is Metal Halide / 250W power consumption / ? / vertical fitting / lamp shape / Pulse start / ? (colour) I have a...

L2, L3 N & E IR test showing dead short, so why is the system working

Just an update: The cable was buried in a question mark pattern and part went under the foundations of another building. On checking the cable that was recovered the fault is still in the ground . So no pictures, sorry, but thanks for the help.

L2, L3 N & E IR test showing dead short, so why is the system working

measuring an IR of 827ohms I'm measuring a continuity of 837 between L2 and L3. IR test gave 0.00 M Ohms With the RCD switched off at the chapel there is no load flowing even the 193w calculated in an earlier post is not showing on the amp clamp ! No metering at all Gen set - T/S - MDP -...

L2, L3 N & E IR test showing dead short, so why is the system working

It looks like the cable will be replaced in the next few days. Point taken about the heat build up I'll see if i can get under the building with a lazer to scan the cable for a hot spot. If you never hear from me again the snakes were using it has a heated blanket.

L2, L3 N & E IR test showing dead short, so why is the system working

Hello All, and thank you for the replys. Again using the 1653B a resistance of 827 ohms was read between L2 and L3. I threw a small amp clamp around the conductors and left the building off but no current flow was shown !!! Still got the same IR result though, so I don't know. Yes the cable...

True I'll go and do a continuity test and get a more accurate figure back in a few hours.

L2, L3 N & E IR test showing dead short, so why is the system working

Hello All, I've been call to a small chapel as the power goes on and off once or twice a week. Cable is a 50mm 4C fed from a 100A 6kA MCCB 50-60m away. 4pole RCD in Chapel. Load on each phase is about 20-35A when the A/C kicks in so MCCB and cable OK for that. IR at 500V Fluke 1653B. Results...

Ze Readings bouncing all over the place

The cable was IR tested with both glands / pig tails disconnected from the DB's and >500MOhms was recorded between phases and Earth. Each building in the area has multiple A/C units and Signals equipment so there is current and voltage flooding the local area. so that would account for the...

Ze Readings bouncing all over the place

Sorry for the delay in replying but I was way on another job. I have a well worn and abused Fluke 1652 and 3 so no sensitive kit here. From the tec plate on the tester 4VDC <Uo <24VDC Rlo< 2ohms In>200mA. I've spoke with the powers that be and a new cable will be laid in the next few days...

R1 + R2 was done dead so was the IR testing.

Ze Readings bouncing all over the place

I thought that as the R1 + R2 value was high (and it ia high Z reading too for a TN-S) but why would the readings be bouncing around? Surely the readings would be constantly high not 0.72 then 0.78, 0.88 ,0.69 etc. What could be happening to cause this fluctuation has mebaffled?

Ze Readings bouncing all over the place

At the sub feeder panel I have a reading of 0.15 on L1 & L2 and on L3 a reading of 0.16 ohms at the start of the circuit off the 50A MCCB. System in TN-S At the CDP the reading is bouncing between the following L1 0.6 to .88, L2 0.68 to 0.8 and L3 0.62 to 0.78 ohms. but remains at 0.15 at the...
