    Advice needed electric keeps tripping

Had something similar a few weeks back. Rcbo would trip random times of day. Turned out that cable had been trapped under floor next to hot water pipe. Cable had started to melt. When pipe got hot circuit would trip. Pain to find!

    SWA installtion method

Hi there, Been to a quote this week to install a post light at the end of a brick drive. The issue is that it can't be buried and there isn't anything to clip it to. This is a shared brick drive with 2 houses. Down the middle of the drive there are 4 brick flower beds. The only option I can see...

advice on extending cables please - what to use?

I have asked QVS and CED, and as yet neither has got back to me. Both said they didn't have that information on their systems and would need to contact their suppliers! So still none the wiser :)

advice on extending cables please - what to use?

Thanks, but this leeds me back to my questions over the ratings. If using the red, blue, yellow butt crimps where do you get them from as have been told that the blue ones from toolstation are only rated to 17amps (even though they are for 2.5mm cable) no good for ring circuits.

advice on extending cables please - what to use?

Yeah thanks, have wagos. The crimps are handy because of their size. Can extend a cable, heat sleeve it. But wagos make the cable much bigger.

advice on extending cables please - what to use?

When extending cables, either becaue of moving a socket or cu change and cables don't reach, what is your prefered method? If using crimp connectors, are the ratings OK? It seems a bit hit and miss with them. I've found some sites that say the blue 2.5mm are rated to 18, 19 amps, whilst others...

    Strange IR results.....

Hi Markie, yeah it did have a metal back box, but I got the same readings when I used a terminal block to connect another piece of cable, bypassing the socket and back box.

Tenby consumer unit - mcb & rcbo needed

Thanks guys. Fitted a Wylex MCB and RCBO. They go in ok, but found that the front cover doesn't shut due to the design of the casing.

    Strange IR results.....

Yeah thought that so tried a new socket and had the same results. Even bypassed the socket and used a choc block. In the end had to get under the mobile home and run a new length of cable. Really odd!

    Strange IR results.....

Hi there Whilst carrying out a PIR on a mobile home, the IR results for the ring came up low, between 2 - 3M ohms. All other circuits where fine. Broke the ring into 2 legs and then split that down until we found the length of cable that was causing the low readings, or so I thought. The run...
