I find the best course of action is select the option that either suggests you want to buy something or want to leave, funnily enough most of the time they answer these calls immediately
Just chop into the mortar, and make good, you wouldn't think twice if was plastered wall?? Chopped in plaster or mortar its still chopped in and covered over with either plaster or cement, a small oval conduit may just fit into the gap for extra protection etc job done
I had it on a length of 1.0mm years back, was a temp bit of wiring so i didn't test it beforehand it did make a bang though, was soon revealed by the blackened bulge, a bit of stripping back did also reveal what looked like a splice for the next length if copper as described above!
I think this is not good, safety letter cannot be a safety letter as technically its not safe, how are the screws to the switches to be earthed?? Upto you as your the one signing your name to it, i personally would of walked away from this one
Thanks for all the replies, will look into options suggested, client now talking about possibility of offering office space with electric inclusive lol as they cant easily separate the heating from downstairs either, at least there is a possibility of some solutions should they be required...
Two meters was suggested but they really want the metering in the ground floor switch room away from the tenants, cost doesnt seem to be an issue so is there a ct metering solution that would do this? Google not my friend in this case
The mains panel where all the sub mains feed is from a rather old federal electrical panel, my initial thought was to stay clear of this, and put a meter local to the submain, we then found another submain feeding another half of the upstairs, it might mean splitting the two from the main panel...

I have a first floor office, to be rented out by owners who occupy downstairs, the upstairs is fed by two sub boards, they want metering for the rented up stairs, but only one meter, is there a way anyone knows to run both submains through one meter?

djw- your the only other one on here who mentions the am1, i did this too, was never any mention of am2 at the time, never heard if am1 since either does it still exist as a pre cursor to the am2??
Mate of mine worked for a firm, they put all the guys through the H&S test, gave them references and forms, they sent their papers off, the ones that got sent trainee cards were shown the door!!

No negativity from here, if mr elecsa and mrs niceic started asking for a gold card lots of people like the Electrical Trainee would be caught out, but at the same time some of us would be forced into £500 odd for nvq 3 and god know how much for am2 and it goes on and on!! Until i need one i wont be bothering...
