Hi
My house has only one ring main which runs EVERYTHING - including boiler, electric fan oven, shower plus all the usual appliances. Although a new RCD was installed before I bought the property nothing else electrical was undertaken, something I now need to address.
My problem is that we're living in the property, have two children and my partner runs his business from home so I'm wondering if we could get away with putting the kitchen on its own circuit, and that would suffice?
The house is about 120 years old, two-storey at the back and three at the front; it is split level inside, kitchen at the back (leads out to the garden) and the RCD is located at the front of the property in a ground floor room so there is a landing and stairs between the two.
So, is it feasible and what would a ball-park cost for this be??
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Pete - before I go any further, do you have a website or somewhere I can check your credentials?
Are you proposing a full electrical report - if so, what is the cost please?
Or, are you offering to come and look and quote?
Might be best if we had a chat at some point?
Therein lies the problem Sarah, I am a retired Electrician, you can check my quals /experience etc, via my profile on the Foeum.
I understand you need to be careful, as I am bot registered anymore it would be difficult for me to notify the work yes I could give you a certificate but being unregistered would be expensive to notify Building Control.
However my thoughts on the visit was to offer advice, not do any work, I wouldn't expect you to pay for the visit just doing it as a favour to a Forum member, feel free to reject offer no problem with me, the offer is still there regardless, just let me know.

No, I mean, Does it suit you, and more importantly are you insinuating I'm a cowboy? as I take exception to that remark. Try to help someone and there will always be someone there to put the boot in.

Just make sure the drinks cabinet is locked up :)

Only joking. Pete’s a well respected member, retired. Perhaps he’s suggesting he would take a quick look, and offer advice?
Yes exactly my intention

I will gladly second that , Pete is one of the most genuine people I have ever come across.

He likes his tea, Earl Grey. Hot.

yes. Pete’s a good’un and he could probably scope more info about the electrics just visually than some others would need the best part of a day to come to the same conclusion and ultimately say the same thing.
