Which make of domestic consumer unit, is most popular?. ie ease of fitting, space to make of cables/connections etc etc.

Just a thought.

ask 10 electricians and you'll get 10 different answers. just a matter of preference.

Do you have a preferred supplier locally? If so what do they stock?

Ultimately, as Telectrix says its preferrence and availability is probably a key driver.

I have one called a NEWLEC. i reckon it was installed in the 80's. I need a new Cooker circyuit installed and an RCD, as there isn't one. Electrician says i cannot use my old Consumer Unit as he cannot use it for some reason that i forget. Wants £450 to fit a new CUnit/Cooker circuit and an RCD. Does that sound reasonable price? Seems so to me. He knows his stuff. I am renovating a flat and although i can replace exisiting work cannot do the kitchen, as it requires signing off. Any views appreciated!

£450 sounds about right as long as it includes the bonding and tails upgrades.

many thanks for your responses to my query re price etc. Much appreciated.
the guy was working on a renovation in a flat nearby and had done total rewire, so i could see his work and he seems very good so will go with him.
