Hi guys,
This is only my 2nd post on the forum, however I have been using it for the past 12 months to help me with various alarm, emergency lighting and PAT queries, keep up the good work and thanks !!!

I have a small fire safety company, which I use a sparkie to test the fire alarms and undertake any electrical works.

When testing a fire alarm I activate all the detectors, call points, check sound levels etc and my subbie check the fire alarm panel.
He does the following:
- visual of panel / clean dust
- checks battery dates and voltages
- voltage drop
- monitors the panel when mains is turned off and under fault conditions

Thing is, he charges me a fortune for under 30 minutes work.

I have a reasonable knowledge on fire alarm systems, what is stopping me from buying a multimeter and reading the fire alarm panel manufacturer's manual and undertaking the specified tests on panel and call points ?

Can I have some guidance please as I don't want to electrocute myself or endanger others!!!

Many thanks in advance guys

Dan
