I have been given a spec for a pretty high end bathroom and the thing that jumped out at me was a hairdryer is to be hard wired into a drawer underneath the sink. Id always though that it was only fixed equipment such as heaters that could be hardwired but having had a scrawl through the regs to go back to the designer I cant find anything that really says its a no no. It will be RCD protected!

Has anyone ever done this before, or can you point me in the right direction in the regs?

Thanks

IMO, if the flex won't allow the hairdryer to reach zone !, it's OK.

Nope, hairdryer operating voltage is >50V therefore does not fall into the extra low voltage category.

Even with the bathroom hairdryer you may also need an isolating transformer but refer to the bathroom hairdryer manual.

The zoning aside i would be inclined to get a hair dryer suitable for a bathroom atmosphere ...so no a standard dryer on flex shouldn't really be used as moist air will condense on the dryer and flex and even run down to the power point, buy a dryer suitable for bathrooms as these have wall mounted bodies IP rated containing all the electrics and the hand held hose contains no electrical parts as its just a plastic tube. Im constantly having to have a chat about using the hair-dryer in the bathroom but the silly cow refuses to use it.....
