Today I picked up a 2nd fix job as previous sparky unable to finish and I was a little confused at what I saw.

In the Kitchen there was double switch but with 4 cables coming through the socket. Lucky for me they were labled "feed" "feed to Light" "2Way1" & "2way2" now this is a bit confusing for little old me as I wasnt expecting to see this and I noticed they have done something similar for the extractor fan isolator switch which included a feed for the bathroom pullcord amongst other things all to be connected within the isolator switch.

Know I understand the 2 way switching but what am I missing as I was not taught anything like this at college?

Are these short cuts can someone enlighten me?

Thankyou

At the isolator, you could have a feed and neutral in,then pair to the switch,a pair to the light and a 3 core to the fan

At the isolator,you could have
Incoming connections
Live in,Live out to pull cord
Neutral in and neutral to light
Switched live return from pull cord and light live

Outgoing connections
Fan permanent live
Fan neutral
Fan Switched live

Is that a normal? I would have installed junction boxes....WHats is the benefit of the process you have detailed above? Thankyou for your response.

Perfectly normal practise through wiring, saves running the switch wire from light as you wire the line through the switch on it's way to the light.

I wouldn't say its normal but it works

also all connections are easily accessible and terminations are mainly in one place

Its not my chosen method, but the standard method is always what you want it to be,not what everyone else may expect.
I would prefer it wired like that than seeing junction boxes, which are best avoided where possible
(in my opinion only,of course )

Not the way most of us do it admitted but it's being taught in college's now as it can save cable. As Des said given the chose this is better than hidden junction boxes.

I still prefer making the connections at the light whenever possible
