I bouught a Nissan Townstar EV and have found what I consider a theft problem

All previous vans I have had allowed the driver to enter and exit the vehicle with the rear storage compartment still locked.

When you opened the van you could set it to global or local unlock, this helped prevent opportunictic thefts when picking up or dropping off a passenger.

The key fob options are:
1. Lock ALL;
2. Unlock ALL
3. Unlock BACK ONLY
4. Unlock charghe point door

There is NO option to unlock the front door(s) only

I brought this up with the dealership who said I could alter the settings on Nissans and when the employee tried to show me how to do it the relevant menu was not there

Am I being paranoid?

From the 'customer service'

We are updating you regarding your concern with the locking system.

As Nissan hasn't advertised these options and also the dealership has confirmed to us that these options with the locking system have not been discussed with you at selling the vehicle.

My reply:
Hi

I asked you to confirm that ALL Nissan vehicles do not have that feature- as you informed me. I have checked my call recording and this is what you told me

Please confirm this is true

When I mentioned this issue to the dealership the employee took me outside to show me how to turn off / turn on global locking

He then told me the menu was not there for this and it could not be done, but to talk to Nissan as it may need to be fixed

This was not pointed out to me at the time of sale as I did not think to ask if Nissan specialise in vehicles which make it easy for people to steal items from the vehicle rear when someone lets a person in or out of the passenger seat.

I am a tradesperson and I carry equipment that is light and easy to steal. This issue places your vehicles in a ‘do not buy’ category for quite a lot of tradespeople.

So, just to confirm- this ‘feature’ is deliberate and a part of my van by design?

To fix this issue would take a software update- can I ask if Nissan will consider this?

Regards

Why don't you use slam locks and immobiliser fitted.
Saves the van nicked.

The problem is not the stealing of the van- I have a Ghost II immobiliser fitted and it stops key clone / duplication theft.

The problem is that the doors all unlock at once and you cannot stop that.

You are right- I may have to buy additional locks and have them installed

I guess one benefit is having your tools stolen without damage to the van.
